Barrier technology – a windproof membrane – is usually sandwiched between fleece fabrics. The Free Climb uses Malden’s Windbloc, but laminated to Power Shield, a stretch woven concoction that’s durable and water repellant, and that sheds snow almost as well as traditional shell pieces (something fleece does not). Outstanding for winter climbing, the Free Climb Bib combines Windbloc ACT (which lets enough air through to provide good temperature regulation) and Power Shield with Winbloc. Two stretch mesh pockets on the chest provide storage, while three quarter side zips offer ventilation option. The front zip runs through the crotch, both for ease of entry and to afford drop seat-like functionality.
