Now that the US governement has turned off the Selective Availability scrambling of the GPS system, GPS recievers are more useful than ever. Garmin's eTrex Summit is ultra small (about the size of a deck of cards), yet still receives on 12 parallel channels and is DGPS ready. The eTrex Summit stores up to 500 waypoints and runs on two AA batteries. Features include an electronic compass, barometer, and altimeter. With altitude and UTM or latitude/longitude coordinates (and a topo map, of course), you can truly pinpoint your location.
