If you don't need the substantial brawn - and attendant weight - of the FTX Ultra, consider the Ethereal FTX pieces. Still made with GORE-TEX® XCR™ three layer fabrication, they use the stout FTX Ultra fabric only in hard use areas. The bodies are built from Ethereal, a lighter weight (but still robust) ripstop nylon. Like the FTX Ultra, both the men's and women's Ethereal FTX Jackets have a powder skirt that's welded, rather than sewn in, alleviating a bulky seam a pack's waist belt might shred, and high output venting from extra long pit zips. Secure, harness-friendly storage comes from zippered, chest high and Napoleon pockets, and both pit zips and pockets boast low bulk Simplex Zip architecture. The men's and women's Bib share built in gaiters for a post-hole-proof seal, as well as articulated knees for better movement. Where the men's model has full Simplex side zips, a zip fly and multi-slider rainbow zip panel for relief operations, the women's version sports a cleverly integrated side zip/rainbow panel configuration and, unsurprisingly, no fly. Both also offer zippered security pockets in the upper portion, but while the men's has a bib, adjustable suspenders and a rear stretch panel, the women's boasts a full coverage, stretch woven "vest" for amazing comfort and fit.
