Modeled after gym pads and adapted to the inconsistent surfaces below boulders, Metolius produced this fine crash pad. 2" of open cell foam covered by 1" of closed cell foam which distributes the force more evenly upon landing. A hinge in the middle lets you carry it by the handle or with the built-in backpack straps. The large size is almost big enough to serve as a guest bed and it's often considered the Lazy-Boy of belay mats when it's time to tend the Grigri. The XXL size is not hinged, but folds in 3, and it is secured by webbing straps and has a shoulder harness for hauling it to the boulders. Colors may vary.
